The most demanding of the four DP mathematics courses. Adds proof by induction, integration by parts, complex numbers, and series convergence to AA SL's analytical core.
Who this course is for
For students aiming at mathematics, physics, engineering, or any path where formal proof and abstract reasoning are central. Expect significant time outside class.

Paper 1
30%Short and extended-response questions, no calculator. Heavy emphasis on algebraic technique and proof.
Paper 2
30%Short and extended-response questions where technology supports problem solving.
Paper 3
20%Two extended problem-solving questions that combine ideas across the syllabus, including proof.
Internal Assessment — Exploration
20%A 12–20 page mathematical exploration on a topic of the student's choice. Students develop, apply and reflect on mathematical ideas, marked against the IB criteria for presentation, communication, personal engagement, reflection, and use of mathematics.
